Tasty Nation desserts

You know the stretch of Avinashi Road near PSG Tech around six in the evening, when classes let out? Or Sathy Road on a Friday night, once the IT crowd from Saravanampatti finally logs off? That's Coimbatore — a mill-and-foundry city that now runs on fresh IT money too, and every single evening, both crowds go looking for something sweet. Here, like everywhere else, a dessert isn't a once-a-year treat — it's something people reach for after college, after work, after dinner, any day of the week. We want to put a Tasty Nation counter right in the middle of that — waffles, shakes, sundaes, boba, brownies, all in one place — because right now your city's dessert map is full of places that do one thing well, and short of the one place that does everything well.

A Mill City That Became an Engineering City

Coimbatore grew up on cotton mills and foundries, and that textile-and-engineering base never really left the city's economy. Walk around Peelamedu or the older industrial belts and you can still feel it: old mill families, factory and foundry staff, and, layered on top now, a newer crowd of software and R&D people who weren't part of this city a generation ago. Everyone spends differently, but everyone steps out for something sweet.

Coimbatore is also a pilgrim stop — the Dhyanalinga at Isha Yoga Center, up in the Velliangiri foothills, is one of the city's best-known visitor draws. But ask anyone who runs a dessert counter here and they'll tell you: it's the students and the IT crowd who fill the tables every single evening, not just the pilgrims passing through on a weekend.

Who Keeps Coimbatore's Dessert Counters Busy

Think about how many students walk out of PSG College of Technology's gates on Avinashi Road every evening — and that's just one college. Add Coimbatore Institute of Technology down the same road, and the dozen-plus other engineering, arts and medical colleges spread across Peelamedu, Saravanampatti and the Pollachi Road belt, and you've got thousands of young people deciding what to eat after class, every single day.

Saravanampatti's CHIL SEZ and the ELCOT IT park at Vilankurichi are both packed with IT companies. That's a daily churn of young, salaried people who want a quick, sweet stop after work, not a full meal. This is the same crowd that lines up at our Chennai counters every evening. Coimbatore just has more of them, packed closer together, than almost anywhere else in Tamil Nadu outside Chennai.

What the Dessert Map Already Shows

So is there room for us here? We looked at the dessert shops, ice cream parlours, waffle counters, boba tea shops and cake shops across the city, and the same pattern showed up everywhere: people here really do love their desserts — the city's ice cream parlours and cake shops are busy, well-reviewed favourites. But almost everyone does one thing — a cake shop is a cake shop, a waffle counter is a waffle counter. The boba and waffle spots we checked each do one thing well. None of them put waffles, shakes, sundaes, boba and brownies on the same counter the way Tasty Nation does. Coimbatore eats dessert. It just hasn't met a counter yet that does every dessert well.

Where a Tasty Nation Counter Would Work

Walk through four parts of this city and you'll see four different crowds, all hungry for the same thing:

  • R.S. Puram (DB Road / Sarojini Street) (standalone outlet): upscale shopping crowd, families and couples, afternoon through late night. the city's densest cluster of dessert and patisserie shops, several open past 11pm
  • Avinashi Road, Peelamedu (opposite PSG College of Technology) (standalone outlet or kiosk): engineering and medical students, hospital staff, young professionals. sits between PSG Tech, Coimbatore Medical College and a stretch of waffle and shake counters already living off student footfall
  • Saravanampatti (Sathy Road, near the CHIL SEZ IT park and Prozone Mall) (mall counter at Prozone or a standalone kiosk on Sathy Road): IT employees and young families, evenings and weekends. a corridor that's grown fast on CHIL SEZ and ELCOT jobs, with malls and a dessert scene still filling in
  • Gandhipuram / Cross Cut Road (around the Town Bus Stand) (kiosk or small standalone): daily commuters, shoppers and students waiting for buses, all day. the city's busiest transit and shopping zone, with the Town Bus Stand and Coimbatore Junction railway station both close by
  • Brookefields Mall, Ram Nagar (adjoining R.S. Puram) (mall / food-court counter): mall-going families and groups, weekends and evenings. a large mall with a multiplex, drawing a steady family crowd

Standalone Outlet or Mall Counter — Coimbatore Can Take Either

We open in two ways, and Coimbatore has room for both. One is a standalone outlet with its own kitchen and counter — think of it like our Kay Food Street outlet in Chennai. The other is a smaller counter inside a mall or food court, like our Vivira Mall outlet. A college-belt or main-road spot with people walking past late into the night suits a standalone; a mall or an IT-park food court suits a counter. We'll work out which one fits your site together, on the call and during the site visit.

Who We're Looking For in Coimbatore

  • You know Coimbatore — R.S. Puram, Peelamedu, Saravanampatti, Gandhipuram — well enough to tell us whether a site actually works, not just how it looks on a map
  • You can be at the counter every day — this isn't something you run from a distance
  • You like people and enjoy the daily back-and-forth of a counter — that matters more than any paper qualification
  • You're ready to follow our recipes and our process exactly, the same way, every single day
  • You either have a site in mind in one of these areas, or a real plan to find one

No food, kitchen or business background needed — training takes just two days, and after that, anyone can run the counter.

What You Get Before You Open in Coimbatore

Every recipe, every process, gets taught to your team hands-on at our Chennai outlets before you open — on working equipment, not slides — and training takes just two days. Nobody on your team needs to have worked in food, a kitchen or a shop before; if they can follow instructions and show up, two days is enough. Chennai is about 500 km and an 8-9 hour drive from Coimbatore, so that training trip is really the one big trip to plan for — after that, we stay with you on ingredient sourcing and marketing, as you need it. And one more thing worth knowing before you commit to any food business: waste is usually one of the biggest headaches in this trade, eating into a day's work before it even reaches the till. A Tasty Nation counter, run the way we teach it, has almost none of that. The path from here is simple: you enquire, we get on a call, we look at your site together, then we set up and train.

Questions about a franchise in Coimbatore

Does Tasty Nation already have an outlet in Coimbatore?

Not yet. Our two outlets today are both in Chennai — Vivira Mall on OMR and Kay Food Street in Pallikaranai. Coimbatore would be among the first cities we open in outside Chennai.

Should I look at a standalone shop or a mall counter for Coimbatore?

Either works here. A standalone suits a college-belt or main-road spot with evening walk-in traffic; a counter suits a mall or an IT-park food court. We'll figure out which one fits your site together, during the site visit.

Do I need restaurant or retail experience to apply?

No. Training takes two days, and that's enough — we're looking for someone who can be there every day, likes people, and will follow our recipes exactly, not someone with a food background.

Which Coimbatore localities are you most interested in?

R.S. Puram, Peelamedu/Avinashi Road, Saravanampatti and the Gandhipuram/Cross Cut Road belt all fit well. If you already have, or can get, a site in one of these, that's a strong place to start.

How do I find out what it costs?

We only talk numbers — investment and the area you'll need — on the discovery call, never in writing. Message us on WhatsApp and we'll get that conversation going.

Who we are

We are Tasty Nation, a 100% vegetarian dessert brand from Chennai. Belgian waffles, thickshakes, sundaes, boba shakes, pancakes, brownies and hot chocolate: 85+ items on one menu. We opened at Kay Food Street, Pallikaranai in December 2023, and today we also run a food-court counter at Vivira Mall on OMR. Same recipes, two very different formats, so we can tell you honestly what each one is like to run. Tasty Nation® is a registered trademark (Licence No. 6368235). More about our franchise programme · see the menu.

Why a dessert outlet, and why you can do it

  • People love sweet desserts. A waffle or a thickshake is an everyday treat for every age in Coimbatore, not something saved for a festival.
  • Almost no waste. Food waste is one of the biggest problems in the food business. A Tasty Nation outlet has almost none.
  • Just 2 days of training. You, or anyone you hire, can start working after two days with us. No previous food, kitchen or business experience needed.
