Tasty Nation desserts

You know the crowd outside VIT's main gate on a Friday night? Or the one near CMC on Ida Scudder Road, any day of the year, holidays included? That's the Vellore we're talking about. We're looking for a franchise partner here — someone who already knows this town, who wants to bring every dessert, done well, under one roof, instead of people hopping between five different shops for a waffle, a shake and a brownie.

A town that never really sleeps — because of two gates, not one

Think about it: VIT keeps one half of Vellore awake, and CMC keeps the other half going. Walk down VIT Road any evening and you'll see why — hostel kids, PG tenants, young staff, everyone looking for somewhere to eat after a long day, term time or not. Now turn towards CMC. It runs like its own small town inside the city — staff, students, and the families who've travelled in for treatment, all still around and still hungry for something sweet even when VIT's hostels empty out for the holidays. And then there's Sripuram: on festival days the road to the Golden Temple is bumper to bumper, everyone hot, thirsty and in the mood to treat themselves before the long drive home. Put all this together and you get a dessert crowd that doesn't take a break, even when college is out.

Who's actually walking in, and when

Picture a VIT student stepping out of a late lab session — where's he going for something sweet at 9pm? Or a CMC postgraduate grabbing twenty minutes between rounds, or a family that's been at the hospital all week and just wants something that feels normal for a little while. Then there's Vellore town itself — Gandhi Nagar, Katpadi Road, Anna Salai — where people already queue on a Sunday evening for ice cream and bakery items, same as in any Tamil Nadu town. Here's the thing worth sitting with: a dessert isn't a once-a-year treat for people in Vellore, any more than it is anywhere else. It's something the VIT student grabs after dinner, something the CMC doctor picks up for his kid, something the Sathuvachari family shares after their evening walk. Every age, every day — that's who walks in.

Everyone's doing one thing well. Nobody's doing all of it.

We went and checked what's already there before saying any of this. Search for a waffle in Vellore and you'll find close to ten counters scattered across VIT Road, Gandhi Nagar, Anna Salai and Sathuvachari — most rated 4.2 and above, most with well under a hundred reviews, though one Gandhi Nagar favourite has crossed 600. Nearly all of them stick to waffles and maybe one other item — nobody's doing the full spread. Search for boba tea and you'll find four dedicated counters near VIT Road and Katpadi, plus general tea shops that pour a boba drink on the side. And Vellore's dessert crowd is clearly there, and willing to queue for it — the busiest bakery in the centre of town has crossed 2,500 Google reviews, and the best-known large ice-cream and chocolate chain outlet near Krishna Nagar has over 1,300. What nobody in Vellore is doing yet is putting waffles, thickshakes, sundaes, boba, brownies and hot chocolate under one roof. You know that feeling of wanting a brownie but ending up at a place that only does cakes? That's the gap.

Five spots we'd actually look at

We didn't just list areas off a map — we walked through why each one makes sense for Vellore. Here's what the research turned up.

  • VIT Road, Katpadi (near VIT main gate) (standalone outlet): VIT students and young staff, every evening and through the night on weekends. a high-footfall student stretch right by VIT's gate, already home to several independent waffle and boba shops but no multi-category brand
  • Gandhi Nagar / Katpadi Road, Silk Mill bus stop (standalone outlet): shoppers, college-goers and families on the main commercial stretch. sits on Gandhi Nagar's main shopping stretch at Silk Mill bus stop, already home to a well-reviewed waffle shop and heavy evening footfall from shoppers and college-goers
  • Sathuvachari (Phase I-III) food-court zone (mall/food-court counter): residential families and young working crowd. already runs an existing food-court format, showing local appetite for a food-court dessert counter
  • Anna Salai / Kosapet, near Officer's Line (standalone outlet): shoppers on Vellore's main high street and office-goers. anchors the town's highest-review bakery (2,561 reviews); the area also sits a short walk from Krishna Nagar's biggest ice-cream chain outlet (1,364 reviews), reinforcing town-centre dessert footfall
  • CMC campus belt, Ida Scudder Road (standalone outlet): CMC staff, students and patients' families. steady year-round footfall tied to CMC's scale; the Sripuram Golden Temple is a separate, ~10 km-away footfall driver that could suit a second site, not the same location

A shop on the street, or a counter in a food court?

We run two kinds of Tasty Nation outlet, and Vellore has room for both. Think VIT Road or Katpadi Road — a street you'd walk down anyway, already packed with small dessert counters — that's a standalone outlet, run the way our Kay Food Street shop works in Chennai. Now think Sathuvachari, where families already sit down together in a food court — that's a counter, the way we run things at Vivira Mall. Which one suits you, and exactly where, is what the discovery call and site visit are for.

Who we're looking for

  • You know Vellore — VIT, CMC, Gandhi Nagar, Sathuvachari — well enough to know where people actually go of an evening
  • You're ready to be there yourself, every day. This isn't something you run from a distance
  • You like people, and don't mind being on your feet at a counter talking to them
  • You're happy to follow our recipes and our process exactly as we teach it — no changes, no shortcuts
  • You don't need to have run a shop before. No food, kitchen or business background required — training takes just two days, and that's enough to get anyone started at the counter

What we bring, so you're not guessing

We don't hand you a recipe file and wave goodbye. Every recipe, every process, gets taught to you hands-on at our own outlets in Chennai, before you open your doors in Vellore. It doesn't stop there either — sourcing ingredients, marketing material, we stay with you after launch too. One more thing worth knowing before you ask: food waste is one of the biggest problems in this business, and a Tasty Nation outlet runs with almost none of it. From enquiry, it's a discovery call, then a site visit, then setup and training — and training itself takes just two days. Investment and the area you'll need, we talk through on the call, not on this page.

Questions about a franchise in Vellore

Is Vellore just a student market, or is there a customer base beyond term time?

Both. VIT and CMC bring large student and staff numbers, but CMC runs year-round including vacations, and Vellore town's own shopping belt around Gandhi Nagar, Katpadi Road and Sathuvachari has its own steady family and office crowd.

Does Vellore already have a brand doing what Tasty Nation does?

Our Google Maps research found strong single-category shops — bakeries, ice cream parlours, standalone waffle and boba counters — but no single place running waffles, thickshakes, sundaes, boba, brownies and hot chocolate together.

Which format works better here, a standalone outlet or a mall counter?

Vellore has strong candidates for both: high-footfall streets like VIT Road or Katpadi Road suit a standalone outlet, while an existing food-court setting like the one in Sathuvachari suits a counter format. The site evaluation call settles this for your specific location.

How far is Vellore from the Chennai outlets where training happens?

About 137 km, roughly a 2.5-3 hour drive on NH48.

Do I need food or retail experience to apply?

No. Training takes just two days and is built for people with no previous food, kitchen or business experience. What matters more is knowing Vellore and being ready to be there every day.

Does footfall drop sharply during VIT's vacation periods?

VIT's holidays do thin the student crowd, but CMC's staff and student population, the CMC-side patient families, and Vellore town's own shopping crowd keep the area active outside term time too.

Who we are

We are Tasty Nation, a 100% vegetarian dessert brand from Chennai. Belgian waffles, thickshakes, sundaes, boba shakes, pancakes, brownies and hot chocolate: 85+ items on one menu. We opened at Kay Food Street, Pallikaranai in December 2023, and today we also run a food-court counter at Vivira Mall on OMR. Same recipes, two very different formats, so we can tell you honestly what each one is like to run. Tasty Nation® is a registered trademark (Licence No. 6368235). Why a dessert outlet, and why you can do it

  • People love sweet desserts. A waffle or a thickshake is an everyday treat for every age in Vellore, not something saved for a festival.
  • Almost no waste. Food waste is one of the biggest problems in the food business. A Tasty Nation outlet has almost none.
  • Just 2 days of training. You, or anyone you hire, can start working after two days with us. No previous food, kitchen or business experience needed.
