Tasty Nation desserts

You know how many people in Mettur get a steady pay cheque every month from the thermal station, Chemplast and MALCO? That is a lot of families with money to spend on a Friday evening, and right now the only place they can take the kids for something sweet is the same two or three bakeries near Square Market. We are looking for someone from Mettur to open a Tasty Nation here, because this town already loves its sweets - nobody has brought it the full boba-tea-and-thickshake kind of evening out yet.

A dam town with a pay cycle every month

Ask anyone at the Mettur Thermal Power Station gate, the Chemplast colony or the MALCO quarters when their salary lands, and they will give you a date, not a guess. That is the thing about Mettur: three big plants plus the SISCOL steel unit down the Pottaneri road mean a lot of households here get paid on time every month, and a fair bit of that goes on the family's small pleasures - a weekend walk at the dam, a plate of fish fry near the Muniappan temple, a stop at Square Market on the way home. Sweets already have a place in that routine.

People in Mettur love a sweet the same way people anywhere do - it is not a once-a-year treat, it is the thing you grab on a scorching afternoon or order for the kids after a good report card. A dessert spot here is not asking the town to pick up a new habit. It is asking it to walk a little further for a better version of the one it already has.

Who actually walks in on a normal evening here

Picture six o'clock at the Square Market bus stand junction. Shift workers getting off the MTPS or Chemplast bus, students walking back from the Cauvery Cross college belt, and families out just to catch some evening air after the day's heat. That junction alone tells you who the first customers are: working adults with a monthly pay cheque, students from MIT Polytechnic, the Government Polytechnic College and the Kavery colleges near Mecheri, and parents bringing children out for a weekend trip to the dam or Ellis Park.

None of these are occasional visitors. The shift crowd passes this junction twice a day. The student crowd needs somewhere to sit between college and the bus home. The weekend family crowd is already walking past Square Market on the way back from the reservoir view point. Mettur does not need a new reason for people to step out in the evening - it needs a better place for them to land once they do.

What the map already shows about Mettur's sweet tooth

We looked at what is already open in Mettur on Google. The town runs a good double-digit number of bakeries, cake counters and juice shops, most sitting around a 4.5-star average with hundreds, and in one case thousands, of reviews between them. That is not a sleepy market - that is a town that rewards a sweet shop that does its job well.

What is missing is just as telling. Search for a boba tea shop inside Mettur itself and you come up empty; the nearest one sits in Salem city, over half an hour away by the Mecheri road. Mettur's dessert crowd is being served cakes, puffs, juice and the odd waffle today - real demand, proven by the reviews - but nobody has brought them the full thickshake-and-boba experience yet. That gap is the opening.

Where in Mettur this could actually open

Four spots kept coming up once we started asking where Mettur actually gathers:

  • Square Market & the bus stand junction (West Main Road) (standalone outlet): shift workers heading home and families out for evening shopping, packed every night and heaviest on weekends. the one strip in Mettur that is always busy after 6 pm, already trained to stop for a sweet bite
  • Cauvery Cross college belt, Navapatty (MIT Polytechnic / Government Polytechnic / Kavery colleges) (standalone outlet): polytechnic and arts college students between classes and after the last bus. three colleges feed students pocket money daily and there is nowhere built just for them to sit
  • Mettur Dam viewpoint road and Ellis Park (standalone outlet): families and visiting relatives on weekend evenings, picnic crowds after the dam walk. steady weekend footfall from the dam and park has nowhere proper to sit down for a treat afterward
  • Thangamapuripattinam riverside stretch near the Kaveri bridge (standalone outlet): young couples and groups on bikes in the evening. a known evening hangout spot by the river with nothing built for the thickshake/boba crowd yet

Which of our two formats fits a town like this

Tasty Nation runs two formats: a standalone outlet like our Kay Food Street store, and a compact mall food-court counter like the one at Vivira Mall. Mettur does not have a mall yet, so every spot above points to the same answer - a standalone outlet, your own small shop with a counter and a few tables, placed where the Square Market crowd, the college crowd or the dam-and-park crowd is already walking.

Who we are looking for in Mettur

  • Someone who actually knows Mettur - which junction gets busy at 6 pm and which one empties out by 9.
  • Comfortable being at the counter yourself most days, at least in the first months.
  • Likes talking to people - shift workers, students, families with kids - more than sitting in a back office.
  • Already has, or is actively looking at, a shop space in one of these areas.
  • Willing to follow our recipes and checklists exactly, every single day.
  • No food, kitchen or business background needed - we are not looking for a chef, we are looking for the right person.

What we hand you before you ever open the shutter

You get every recipe and process we use in our own Chennai outlets, taught to you hands-on - just two days of training, after which anyone, even someone who has never worked a day in food, kitchen or retail before, can run the counter properly. We walk through site evaluation for your shortlisted spot, help with store setup, and stay with you on ingredient sourcing and marketing materials after you open, the same way our own two outlets are run. You also get the same thing every Tasty Nation outlet already has: food waste, one of the biggest problems in this business, running at almost none - no number on that, just the way the model works, here and at our Chennai outlets.

The next step is a discovery call, then we look at your site together, and only after that does setup and training begin.

Questions about a franchise in Mettur

Does Mettur actually have enough people for a dessert shop like this?

Yes - between the thermal station, Chemplast, MALCO and three polytechnic colleges, Mettur has a steady base of working adults and students who already spend on sweets every week; the gap is in who is serving them, not whether the demand exists.

Mettur does not have a mall. Does that rule us out?

No - Tasty Nation also runs as a standalone outlet, which is exactly the model that fits Mettur best, built around Square Market, the college belt or the dam-park crowd.

Do I need to have run a food business before?

No. You get two days of hands-on training on every recipe and process; no previous food, kitchen or business experience is needed.

Which part of Mettur should I be looking at for a shop?

Square Market and the bus stand junction, the Cauvery Cross college belt, and the road toward the dam and Ellis Park are the areas we would start scouting - we confirm the exact spot together on the site visit.

Will the summer heat here actually help or hurt business?

Mettur's summer afternoons are exactly when people look for something cold - that is normal demand for a dessert counter, not a risk.

Who we are

We are Tasty Nation, a 100% vegetarian dessert brand from Chennai. Belgian waffles, thickshakes, sundaes, boba shakes, pancakes, brownies and hot chocolate: 85+ items on one menu. We opened at Kay Food Street, Pallikaranai in December 2023, and today we also run a food-court counter at Vivira Mall on OMR. Same recipes, two very different formats, so we can tell you honestly what each one is like to run. Tasty Nation® is a registered trademark (Licence No. 6368235). Why a dessert outlet, and why you can do it

  • People love sweet desserts. A waffle or a thickshake is an everyday treat for every age in Mettur, not something saved for a festival.
  • Almost no waste. Food waste is one of the biggest problems in the food business. A Tasty Nation outlet has almost none.
  • Just 2 days of training. You, or anyone you hire, can start working after two days with us. No previous food, kitchen or business experience needed.
