We're looking for a franchise partner in Tirunelveli — Nellai, as everyone here calls it — because this is a town that already queues for a cold treat every single evening, whether it's outside the halwa stall near the temple or at the ice cream counter on Trivandrum Road. Chennai is about seven hours away by train, but the kind of all-in-one dessert counter this town's appetite deserves hasn't opened here yet. If you already know where the evening crowd stands in Nellai, we just need you to open the counter.
Walk down South Car Street any evening and you'll see it: grandparents buying halwa on their way out of Nellaiappar Temple, students grabbing an ice cream after tuition, a whole family splitting a shake after a function at the mandapam. In Nellai, dessert has never been a once-a-year, special-occasion thing — it's something every age reaches for on an ordinary Tuesday. That's the one thing this town shares with every other Tasty Nation city: people love sweet desserts, and here that love shows up as a queue outside a sweet shop every single evening, festival season or not.
You know the crowd that comes off a morning at Nellaiappar or a trip to Krishnapuram and wants something cool before heading home — families with kids, elders, young couples visiting for the day. Add the thousands of students who pour out of Manonmaniam Sundaranar University and the colleges around Palayamkottai and the medical college every evening, looking for somewhere to sit with friends before the last bus from the New Bus Stand. Then there's the quieter crowd: young staff from the shops and offices around Vannarpettai, closing up and wanting a treat on the way home. None of them are waiting for a special occasion. They just want a good dessert, close to wherever they already are.
We checked what's already working here. Ice cream counters in town already carry four-figure Google review counts, several rated 4.4 and above — that's a lot of people bothering to leave a review for ice cream. One local bakery branch alone has crossed 3,000 reviews. A dessert-and-juice spot on South Bypass Road has over a thousand reviews at a 4.7 rating. People here aren't shy about queuing, paying and coming back for a sweet treat. What we didn't find is one shop that does every dessert well under one roof — the one proper waffle café we found, on Trivandrum Road, now shows as permanently closed on Google. Nellai has plenty of single-item specialists — cake shops, ice cream counters, a famous evening halwa queue — but no one place that does waffles, shakes, sundaes and hot chocolate together. And running that one place comes with a real advantage: food waste is one of the biggest problems anywhere in the food business, and a Tasty Nation outlet has almost none of it.
Here's what the map of Nellai is already telling us:
Nellai doesn't have a big glossy mall yet, so the more obvious fit to start with is a standalone outlet — run exactly like our Kay Food Street shop in Chennai — on a street with steady footfall, like Trivandrum Road or South Car Street. If a shopping complex with a proper food court comes up, around Vannarpettai or near the bus stand, the second format is a compact mall-style counter, run like our Vivira Mall outlet. Both formats are proven in Chennai; which one fits depends on the exact site you bring to the discovery call.
No food, kitchen or business background needed. We've seen people start with zero experience and run the counter well.
We teach you every recipe and every process ourselves, hands-on, at our own outlets in Chennai — and it only takes 2 days before someone can start working the counter. After that we stay involved: help with ingredient sourcing, marketing materials, and the same ongoing support we give our own Chennai outlets. The steps are simple — you message us, we get on a discovery call, we evaluate the site together, then set up and train. Investment and the exact area you'll need are things we talk through on that call, not something we put in writing here.
We don't think so. A university with thousands of students, a medical college, a temple that pulls crowds year-round, and dessert shops already crossing a thousand-plus Google reviews each — the demand is there. What's missing is one place that does every dessert well.
Not a big one yet, which is exactly why a standalone outlet — on a street like Trivandrum Road or South Car Street — is the more likely fit here to start with.
Yes. Training takes just 2 days and we teach you everything hands-on at our Chennai outlets — no previous food, kitchen or business experience needed.
About 7 hours by the Vande Bharat Express from Tirunelveli Junction, or you can drive. It's a there-and-back trip, not a relocation.
That's fine. We run two formats — a standalone outlet and a compact mall/food-court counter — and we'll help you work out which one fits the site you bring to the call.
That's discussed on the discovery call, not published here. Every site is different.
