Tasty Nation desserts

We're looking for a franchise partner in Chengalpattu — someone who already knows this town better than any outsider ever could. Every single day thousands of people change buses at the Old and New Bus Stand, catch the fast local towards Tambaram, or walk out of Mahindra World City's gates for lunch, and right now almost none of them have one place to actually sit down and have a proper dessert. That's the opening.

Chengalpattu passes everyone through — but keeps very few

You know how it is here: GST Road never really sleeps, trains roll through the Junction all day and night, and half the town is either rushing to catch something or just got off something. Almost every southbound express halts at Chengalpattu Junction, and the suburban train gets you to Tambaram or Guindy in about an hour to ninety minutes. That's exactly why so much of the town feels like a stopover — people pass through the New Bus Stand on GST Road for a quick tea and a hot puff, not a place to sit down. On a hot afternoon you'll still see the usual nungu cart, a Rose Milk stall, maybe a Jigarthanda shop that's opened near JCK Nagar lately. What Chengalpattu doesn't have is one proper spot where a family, a bunch of engineering students, or someone walking out of Mahindra World City can sit for twenty minutes over a waffle or a thick shake instead of grabbing something and running for the next bus.

Who's actually around to walk in?

Think about who's moving through town on an ordinary evening. There's the Mahindra World City crowd — Infosys, Capgemini, BMW, TVS and dozens of other companies inside that zone together employ well over 25,000 people, and a good chunk of them are young enough to want a shake after work, not just filter coffee. There's the medical college crowd: Chengalpattu Government Medical College takes in a hundred new MBBS students every single year, plus postgraduates, so there's always a fresh batch of hostel students with time on their hands after rounds. Add the engineering and arts college students around JCK Nagar and Vedachalam Nagar, plus the ones who hop a train out to the SRM campus at Potheri and back. And don't forget the families — people who moved into the new apartments off GST Road because Chennai got too expensive, who still want a weekend treat close to home instead of fighting traffic for an hour to get one.

The reviews already tell you people are hungry for this

You don't have to take our word for it — look at what's already getting attention on Google here. Several small dessert spots around town — ice-cream counters, waffle stalls, a cake shop or two, including a waffle-and-boba counter tucked inside Mahindra World City's own food zone — are already sitting on hundreds of Google reviews with ratings above 4.4. People here clearly queue up and leave five-star reviews for a good dessert, but every one of these places does only one thing. Nobody's doing the full range — waffles, shakes, boba, brownies, hot chocolate — under one roof, in both a standalone shop and a food-court counter. That gap is sitting right there.

Where in Chengalpattu would this actually sit?

A few stretches of town already pull in a crowd every single day — here's where we'd actually start looking.

  • GST Road near the New Bus Stand, Gokulapuram (standalone outlet): Bus passengers, shoppers and families out for evening snacks; packed from late afternoon till near midnight. The busiest, most-walked stretch in town — several cake and bakery counters here already pull steady crowds
  • The Canopy food zone, Mahindra World City, Veerapuram (mall food-court counter): IT and corporate staff from Infosys, Capgemini, BMW and other MWC companies, mostly lunch hour and post-work evenings. A captive, salaried crowd inside a gated corporate park, already used to grabbing a quick dessert between meetings
  • JCK Nagar / Anna Nagar, near the Government Hospital (standalone outlet): College students, hospital staff and visiting families through the day. Home to much of Chengalpattu's medical college crowd and several schools — steady footfall every day of the week
  • Alapakkam, near the showroom stretch on T.K.M Road (standalone outlet): Families and young couples in the evening, shoppers visiting the showrooms nearby. Already home to a well-reviewed ice-cream counter, showing the area draws a paying evening crowd

Counter in the Canopy, or your own shop on GST Road?

We only ever run two kinds of outlets, and Chengalpattu genuinely has room for either. One is a standalone shop you run day to day, the way we run our Kay Food Street outlet in Chennai — that's the GST Road or JCK Nagar kind of spot, open to walk-ins from morning till late night. The other is a compact counter inside a food court or mall, the way we run our Vivira Mall counter — that's the Mahindra World City kind of spot, where people come to you between meetings rather than you waiting for them to notice a shop board. Which one makes sense for you depends on where you already have — or can get — a site, and that's exactly what the site evaluation call is for.

Who are we hoping to hear from in Chengalpattu?

  • Someone who already knows this town — which lane gets busy by 7 pm and which one is dead by 9
  • Someone who can be at the counter or close by, every single day, not just checking in once a week
  • Someone who genuinely likes talking to people — students, IT staff, families with kids — not someone who wants to run it from a distance
  • Someone who has, or is actively working on, a site in one of these areas — GST Road, The Canopy, JCK Nagar or Alapakkam
  • Someone willing to follow our recipes and our way of doing things exactly, every single day

You don't need to have run a shop before, or know anything about food, kitchens or desserts. None of that is required.

What we actually do for you, step by step

Once you reach out, it's a discovery call first — we talk about Chengalpattu, which of these areas you're thinking of, and what you already have in hand. Then a site evaluation, where we actually look at the spot. If it fits, you get trained — every recipe we use, taught hands-on over two days at our own outlets in Chennai, no previous food or kitchen experience needed at all. After that it's setup, and ongoing support: we help with sourcing ingredients and give you marketing materials, the same way we support our own two outlets. And because it's dessert — something people treat themselves to on a random Tuesday, not just birthdays — and because a Tasty Nation outlet runs with almost no food waste, it's a steadier day-to-day business than it might look from the outside.

Questions about a franchise in Chengalpattu

Can I open this near Mahindra World City instead of in the main town?

Yes — a food-court style counter inside a corporate or mall food zone like The Canopy is one of our two standard formats, and it suits a salaried, every-day crowd well. We'll work out which format suits your site on the discovery call.

I've never run a food business before — is that a problem?

No. Training is just two days, hands-on at our Chennai outlets, and it's built for people with zero food, kitchen or business experience.

Do I need to already own a shop on GST Road or inside Mahindra World City?

You need access to a site, or a solid plan to get one, in an area like GST Road, The Canopy, JCK Nagar or Alapakkam. We evaluate the actual site together before anything is finalised.

Will this work for a town this size, or is it only for big cities?

Chengalpattu has colleges, a government medical college, a corporate park employing over 25,000 people, and a steady stream of commuters through the Junction — the existing dessert shops here already show people are willing to pay and queue for good desserts.

What exactly do I get taught?

Every recipe on our menu, documented and taught hands-on at our Chennai outlets, plus ongoing support on sourcing ingredients and marketing materials once you're open.

Who we are

We are Tasty Nation, a 100% vegetarian dessert brand from Chennai. Belgian waffles, thickshakes, sundaes, boba shakes, pancakes, brownies and hot chocolate: 85+ items on one menu. We opened at Kay Food Street, Pallikaranai in December 2023, and today we also run a food-court counter at Vivira Mall on OMR. Same recipes, two very different formats, so we can tell you honestly what each one is like to run. Tasty Nation® is a registered trademark (Licence No. 6368235). More about our franchise programme · see the menu.

Why a dessert outlet, and why you can do it

  • People love sweet desserts. A waffle or a thickshake is an everyday treat for every age in Chengalpattu, not something saved for a festival.
  • Almost no waste. Food waste is one of the biggest problems in the food business. A Tasty Nation outlet has almost none.
  • Just 2 days of training. You, or anyone you hire, can start working after two days with us. No previous food, kitchen or business experience needed.
