Walk down Palani Road on any evening and you will see it — the smell of kothu parotta from the tawa, the line outside the sweet shop on the corner, one more bus pulling into Kamarajar stand. Dindigul eats biryani like nowhere else in Tamil Nadu, and right after, it goes looking for something sweet and cold. We are looking for one person from this town who wants to open the counter that does every one of those cravings — waffles, thickshakes, sundaes, boba — under one roof, the same way every single time.
Say Dindigul to anyone in Tamil Nadu and they will say biryani before anything else. But spend an evening on AMC Road near Chennai Silks and you will notice something else: this town already loves sitting down for a treat. One bakery-cafe in town has already crossed ten thousand Google reviews, and a sweet shop near Begambur sits at a 4.9 rating across more than 2,600 reviews. People here are not short of sweet shops — they are short of one place that does every dessert well instead of one hero item and a dozen fillers. That is the gap we think Dindigul has room for.
And people here don't flinch at spending on a treat — the same families you see buying sarees on AMC Road or stopping at the bakeries after work are already paying full price for a coffee and cake, evening after evening.
Think about who is already moving through Dindigul on any given evening. Students from PSNA College of Engineering and Technology — around 6,500 of them on that one campus — riding out after class looking for somewhere to sit before heading home. Students from Gandhigram Rural Institute, the deemed university out on the Dindigul-Madurai road, doing the same. Families who came into town for shopping on AMC Road or Palani Road and are not quite ready to go home yet. Bus passengers changing at Kamarajar stand with twenty minutes to kill. And during Navratri, when the Abirami Amman temple inside the old Rock Fort fills with devotees for the Kolu, the whole town centre gets busier than usual. None of these people are hard to find — they are already walking past your future counter every day.
We checked every dessert, ice cream, waffle, milkshake, boba and cake listing we could find on Google Maps for Dindigul. The bakeries are strong — several sit at 4.5 to 4.9 ratings with hundreds or thousands of reviews. But almost every one of them is a bakery-cum-fast-food stop: cakes and puffs next to burgers and shawarma, or a juice shop that also sells ice cream. Most of what we found mixes desserts with burgers, shawarma or juice — only a couple of spots in town focus purely on shakes and waffles, so there's still real room for a brand built around every dessert, not a side menu. That is exactly the idea Tasty Nation was built on: every single item on the menu made to be someone's favourite, not one signature dish propping up a filler menu.
It also helps that a dessert is not a special-occasion purchase for most people — in Dindigul too, a cold shake after biryani or a cake stop after temple is just part of the evening. And running the counter itself is simple: food waste, one of the toughest problems in this business, is almost a non-issue in a Tasty Nation outlet, and training takes just two days — nobody needs food, kitchen or business experience before they start.
These are not the only options, but they are where the evening crowd already is.
Dindigul does not have a large mall with a food court the way Chennai or Madurai does, so the format that fits here is the standalone outlet — a dedicated counter and seating area on a busy street, run the way our Kay Food Street outlet in Pallikaranai has operated since December 2023. If that changes as the town grows, the mall/food-court counter format we run at Vivira Mall is also something we have already proven and could bring here later.
Every recipe and process we use at our two Chennai outlets, documented and taught to you hands-on at those outlets before you open — training takes two days. After that, support continues: ingredient sourcing, marketing materials, the same backing our own outlets get. The next step is simple: you message us, we get on a discovery call, we evaluate the site you have in mind, and then we set up and train together. Investment and area details are things we go through properly on that call, not something we throw out in writing before we even know your street.
Room for a sweet shop, maybe not. Room for a place that treats waffles, thickshakes, sundaes and boba as seriously as biryani shops treat their rice — that is what we did not find when we checked every dessert listing in town.
It has around 6,500 students at PSNA alone, another 3,000 at Gandhigram Rural Institute, and a bus stand that keeps people moving through town all day. Small in size, not short of footfall.
Dindigul does not have a big mall with a food court yet, so a standalone outlet on a street like Palani Road or AMC Road is the format that makes sense right now.
Yes. Training takes two days at our Chennai outlets and covers every recipe and process. No previous food, kitchen or business experience is needed.
A discovery call first, then we evaluate the site you have in mind together, then setup and training. Investment and space needs are discussed on that call, not before.
