Tasty Nation desserts

We're looking for a Tasty Nation partner in Mayiladuthurai — and here's the thing that got our attention. This town has more sweet shops and bakeries than we could count on Google Maps, yet we couldn't find a single boba tea counter anywhere, and only one small waffle stall with eighteen reviews. A town that already loves a treat this much, with no modern dessert hangout to show for it — that's the gap we want someone from Mayavaram to fill with us.

A temple town that already loves a treat

Walk out of the Mayuranathaswamy temple on any evening and look around — families lingering near Big Bazaar Road, pilgrims who came in for the day from Chidambaram, Sirkazhi or Vaitheeswaran Koil, all looking for somewhere to sit down before the bus or train home. The railway junction is barely two kilometres from the temple, so a good part of that crowd is passing through, not just passing by. When the chariot festival comes around, the streets around the temple fill up with people who've travelled across the delta for one darshan and one good evening out. A 100% vegetarian menu isn't a marketing line here — it's simply one less thing you have to explain to a pilgrim family or a temple-side landlord.

Who's actually walking past your counter

Who exactly passes by in Mayavaram on a normal Tuesday? Start with the temple crowd — morning and evening darshan at Mayuranathaswamy, or at Parimala Ranganathar across the river, brings a steady trickle all day, heavier on Fridays and festival days. Add the students coming off the bus from AVC College at Mannampandal, who already crowd the tea stalls near the Old Bus Stand and Railway Cross Road once classes let out. Then there's the new bus station out at Manakkudi — twenty-eight bus bays and forty-nine shops, open since March 2026, built to replace an old stand that was pushing through more than a thousand trips a day. That's buses to Chennai, Trichy, Coimbatore, Madurai, Bengaluru and Pondicherry, loading and unloading people who'll want a cold drink or a quick treat before they board.

The dessert gap on your own Google Maps

Search for a sweet shop in Mayiladuthurai on Google Maps and you'll scroll for a while — the top few traditional sweets-and-bakery shops in town each carry hundreds of reviews, one Koranad bakery past 750. This is clearly a town that buys sweets by habit, not just for functions. But look closer and almost everything on that list is a cake-and-traditional-sweets shop. The one dedicated waffle counter we found has 18 reviews. We didn't find a single boba or bubble tea shop anywhere in town. Even the one proper ice-cream chain outlet in town, in Koranad, has close to a thousand reviews — more than almost anything else dessert-related here — and was recently reported shut for renovation by a visitor. People love a sweet treat in Mayavaram same as anywhere else; in Mayiladuthurai too, a dessert is an everyday thing, not just a festival buy. We just don't think there's a proper modern dessert spot doing it every single day yet. And whoever runs that spot won't be fighting food waste the way a regular kitchen would — a Tasty Nation outlet runs with almost none.

Where in town this could sit

A few stretches of Mayavaram where this would make sense, based on who already gathers there:

  • Gandhiji Road & Pattamangalam Street (standalone outlet): Evening shoppers, jewellery and textile customers, families walking through after temple visits. Busiest market stretch in town after sundown, right where foot traffic naturally slows to browse
  • Mayuranathaswamy Temple precinct, town centre (standalone outlet): Pilgrims and families before or after darshan, heavier on Fridays and festival days. Steady temple footfall all day, with the chariot festival pulling in visitors from across the delta
  • Railway Cross Road, near Mayiladuthurai Junction (standalone outlet): Travellers passing through on the Chennai–Thanjavur line, students and daily commuters. Two kilometres from the temple and already home to the town's busiest tea stalls
  • AVC College road, Mannampandal / Koranad (standalone outlet): College students once classes let out, waiting for buses back into town. Students already crowd the tea stalls here every evening — there's no modern treat spot yet
  • New Bus Station complex, Manakkudi (SH22) (mall food-court counter): Bus passengers travelling to and from Chennai, Trichy, Coimbatore, Madurai, Bengaluru and Pondicherry. A 49-shop terminus built for exactly this kind of shared footfall, replacing a stand that ran 1,000+ trips a day

Two shapes, you pick what fits Mayavaram

We've only ever run two shapes of Tasty Nation, and both work here. One is the standalone outlet — your own counter and seating, the way Kay Food Street runs in Pallikaranai, built around whichever market street or temple-side road you pick. The other is the compact food-court counter, the way our Vivira Mall outlet works — lower footprint, built for shared footfall. Mayavaram doesn't have a mall yet, but the new bus station's forty-nine-shop complex is the closest thing to that shared-footfall setup, if that's the crowd you'd rather catch. Which one fits is something we figure out together on the call, once we know your site.

Who we're looking for in Mayavaram

  • You actually know Mayiladuthurai — which street gets busy at 7pm and which one empties out, not just the main road
  • You can be at the counter yourself most days, not running it from a distance
  • You like talking to people — pilgrims, students, regulars who'll come back every week
  • You have a site in mind, or a strong idea of where in town to look — Gandhiji Road, near the temple, near the new bus station, wherever you think the crowd is
  • You're fine following a recipe exactly as it's taught, every time, no shortcuts

What you don't have to figure out alone

None of this needs previous food, kitchen or business experience — training is just two days, hands-on at our Chennai outlets, and that's enough to start working the counter. Every recipe and process is already written down and proven across our two Chennai outlets; you're not guessing your way through a menu. Support doesn't stop at handover either — we stay involved from ingredient sourcing to marketing materials. The next steps are simple: you enquire, we get on a call, we look at your site together, then we set up and train you before you open.

Questions about a franchise in Mayiladuthurai

Is Mayiladuthurai too small a town for a brand built in Chennai?

Size isn't really the test — footfall is. Between temple pilgrims, AVC College students and a brand-new bus station moving over a thousand trips a day, Mayavaram already has crowds that gather in the same few spots every day. That's what a Tasty Nation counter needs.

Does the menu need to change for a temple town?

The menu itself stays the same as our Chennai outlets — waffles, shakes, sundaes and more. The 100% vegetarian side of it already fits a temple-town crowd without any changes needed.

Will festival season bring in real traffic, or just once a year?

Mayiladuthurai sits in a belt with Chidambaram, Kumbakonam, Sirkazhi, Thiruvarur and Vaitheeswaran Koil all nearby, so there's pilgrim traffic through the year, with the Mayuranathaswamy chariot festival as the biggest spike — worth going deeper on in the discovery call.

I don't have retail or food experience — can I still do this?

Yes. Training takes two days, hands-on at our Chennai outlets, and that's the only experience you need going in.

Where in town should I even look for a site?

That depends on which crowd you want to catch — we'll talk through options like Gandhiji Road, near the temple, the college road at Koranad, or the new bus station complex on your discovery call.

Who we are

We are Tasty Nation, a 100% vegetarian dessert brand from Chennai. Belgian waffles, thickshakes, sundaes, boba shakes, pancakes, brownies and hot chocolate: 85+ items on one menu. We opened at Kay Food Street, Pallikaranai in December 2023, and today we also run a food-court counter at Vivira Mall on OMR. Same recipes, two very different formats, so we can tell you honestly what each one is like to run. Tasty Nation® is a registered trademark (Licence No. 6368235). More about our franchise programme · see the menu.

Why a dessert outlet, and why you can do it

  • People love sweet desserts. A waffle or a thickshake is an everyday treat for every age in Mayiladuthurai, not something saved for a festival.
  • Almost no waste. Food waste is one of the biggest problems in the food business. A Tasty Nation outlet has almost none.
  • Just 2 days of training. You, or anyone you hire, can start working after two days with us. No previous food, kitchen or business experience needed.
