Tasty Nation desserts

Walk down Kamaraj Road on any evening and count the ice-cream boards before you hit the Mahalingapuram roundana — you'll lose count before the signal changes. Pollachi has no shortage of people with a sweet tooth, from the coconut and jaggery traders shutting their ledgers for the day to the NGM and DMCET students cutting through town before the last bus. What the town doesn't have is one counter where all of it — waffles, shakes, brownies, hot chocolate — sits on the same menu. We're looking for a franchise partner to open that counter in Pollachi.

A Coconut Town That Already Loves a Sweet Stop

You know Pollachi's real business isn't dessert — it's coconut, jaggery, vegetables and cattle, with textile money running alongside it. But look at what that trade has built: a town where an evening stop for something cold or sweet is just normal life, not a special occasion. Every ice-cream parlour, cake shop and juice counter on Kamaraj Road and around the roundana is doing decent business, and most of them are doing only one thing — ice cream here, cakes there, a waffle stall two streets down that only has waffles. Nobody in town is running a counter where you can walk in once and get a waffle, a thickshake and a brownie off the same menu.

Pongal season brings the jaggery and sugarcane trade to its peak, Thaipusam draws crowds to Thirumurthyswami temple, and through the rest of the year buses keep heading up the Pollachi-Valparai road towards Aliyar Dam and Monkey Falls, with families stopping in town before the ghat starts. That's a steady mix of local money and passing traffic, and right now it's being served in bits and pieces.

Who Actually Walks Past Your Counter

Think about who's moving through Pollachi on an ordinary evening. There are the traders and shop owners near the market and bus stand area who close up and want a quick treat before heading home. There are NGM College and DMCET students along Palghat Road and Udumalai Road, plus the Pollachi Institute of Engineering and Nachimuthu Polytechnic crowd, all looking for somewhere to sit after class that isn't just another tea shop. There are families doing their evening walk around the roundana who stop at a juice counter or one of the ice-cream parlours almost out of habit. And there's the traveller crowd — people heading to or coming back from Valparai or Topslip, who pull over in Pollachi for a break before or after the ghat roads.

In Pollachi like everywhere else, a dessert isn't saved for birthdays — it's an everyday treat for a student, a trader or a family on a Sunday evening. That's the crowd a dessert counter here would be built for.

What We See in Pollachi's Numbers

We looked at what's already running in Pollachi before writing this page. The ice-cream and cake shops already running in Pollachi are pulling serious numbers — one near the bus stand has crossed 900 Google reviews at a 4.3+ average, another in Arumugam Nagar has over 700, and a Kamaraj Road cake shop has over 130 reviews praising its chocolate desserts. That's a lot of people walking in for one thing at a time. These are real numbers for real footfall, and none of these shops serve waffles, boba shakes, pancakes and hot chocolate alongside what they already do.

We only found two dedicated waffle counters in the whole town — one in Mahalingapuram and one in Indra Nagar, both small, single-item setups. We looked for a dedicated boba or bubble-tea shop and didn't find one; bubble tea shows up only as one item on a café menu near the roundana. That's the gap: Pollachi has plenty of appetite for dessert, proven by the review counts, but nobody is serving the full range under one roof.

Four Spots We'd Start Looking At

We haven't picked a location — that's part of the site evaluation call — but here's where the crowd already is.

  • Kamaraj Road & Mahalingapuram Roundana, Arumugam Nagar (standalone outlet): evening walkers, families and the dessert-shop crowd already loyal to the ice-cream, cake and juice counters nearby. the thickest cluster of ice-cream, cake and juice shops in Pollachi, right at the town's central junction
  • Venkatasa Colony, near the New Bus Stand (standalone outlet): bus travellers, shoppers and the regulars of the established ice-cream brands already here. steady footfall from the bus stand plus two established dessert brands already proving the demand here
  • Udumalai Road & Palghat Road college belt (standalone outlet): NGM College, DMCET, PIETECH and Nachimuthu Polytechnic students after class. several colleges along one stretch means a predictable after-college crowd most of the year
  • Pollachi-Valparai Road junction, towards Aliyar Dam (standalone outlet): travellers heading toward Valparai and Topslip on the hill route, plus regular traffic on that stretch. a steady flow of passing traffic heading toward the Valparai and hill routes, on top of local regulars

Which Format Suits Pollachi

We run two formats today: a standalone outlet like Kay Food Street, Pallikaranai, and a mall food-court counter like our Vivira Mall store. We didn't find an organised mall with a food court in Pollachi, so a standalone outlet — its own counter and seating, on a road with steady footfall like Kamaraj Road or the bus stand stretch — is the natural fit for the town today. If that changes, or if you know a format we haven't considered for your spot, that's exactly what the discovery call and site evaluation are for.

Who We're Hoping Finds This Page

  • You know Pollachi — not just the main road, but which lane actually fills up on a Friday evening.
  • You can be at the counter yourself, every day, not just drop by on weekends.
  • You like talking to people — regulars, students, the family that comes back for the fourth time asking for 'the usual'.
  • You have a site in mind, or a strong idea of one, somewhere around the areas above.
  • You're willing to follow our recipes and standards exactly as taught — no previous food, kitchen or business experience needed.

What Changes the Day You Say Yes

Training takes just two days, done hands-on at our Chennai outlets, and that's it — anyone can start working the counter after that, no matter what they did before. You get every recipe and process we use at Kay Food Street and Vivira Mall, documented and taught the same way, plus ongoing support from ingredient sourcing to marketing materials. And a Tasty Nation outlet runs with almost no waste — one less thing to worry about every evening. The steps from here are simple: enquire, get on a discovery call, walk the site with us, then set up and train.

Questions about a franchise in Pollachi

Is Pollachi big enough for a full dessert menu, not just ice cream?

The review counts on existing single-item shops here — some with 700+ Google reviews — suggest the appetite is already there. Nobody in town currently serves waffles, shakes, brownies and hot chocolate together, which is the gap we're looking to fill.

Pollachi doesn't have a mall — does that rule it out?

No. We run both a standalone outlet format and a mall food-court counter, and Pollachi fits the standalone model, the same way our first outlet at Kay Food Street, Pallikaranai, operates.

I've never run a food business. Can I still apply?

Yes. Training is two days, hands-on at our Chennai outlets, and covers everything you need. No previous food, kitchen or business experience is required.

Does the coconut and agriculture trade season affect footfall?

It can shift the local crowd's rhythm around harvest and market days, but students, families and the steady traveller traffic toward Valparai and Topslip keep moving through Pollachi all year.

Can a Pollachi outlet also catch the Valparai/Topslip tourist traffic?

A location on the Pollachi-Valparai Road, on the way to Aliyar Dam — the route travellers already use before or after the ghat roads — can catch some of that traffic, though your core, everyday crowd would still be local.

How do I start?

Who we are

We are Tasty Nation, a 100% vegetarian dessert brand from Chennai. Belgian waffles, thickshakes, sundaes, boba shakes, pancakes, brownies and hot chocolate: 85+ items on one menu. We opened at Kay Food Street, Pallikaranai in December 2023, and today we also run a food-court counter at Vivira Mall on OMR. Same recipes, two very different formats, so we can tell you honestly what each one is like to run. Tasty Nation® is a registered trademark (Licence No. 6368235). More about our franchise programme · see the menu.

Why a dessert outlet, and why you can do it

  • People love sweet desserts. A waffle or a thickshake is an everyday treat for every age in Pollachi, not something saved for a festival.
  • Almost no waste. Food waste is one of the biggest problems in the food business. A Tasty Nation outlet has almost none.
  • Just 2 days of training. You, or anyone you hire, can start working after two days with us. No previous food, kitchen or business experience needed.
